35Tangent in a right triangle

In right triangle PQR, angle R is the right angle, PR = 15 and QR = 8. What is the value of tan P?

tan P = 8/15. Since the right angle is at R, PR and QR are the legs; from P's viewpoint QR is opposite and PR is adjacent, so tan P = opposite/adjacent = 8/15.
