A plumber charges a call-out fee of 65 dollars plus 48 dollars per hour of work. A job cost 281 dollars in total. How many hours did the job take?

The job took 4.5 hours. Setting up 65 + 48h = 281, subtracting 65 gives 48h = 216, and dividing by 48 gives h = 4.5. Check: 65 + 48(4.5) = 281.
