31Uniform mean and variance

X∼Uniform(2,8)\displaystyle X \sim \mathrm{Uniform}(2, 8). Find E[X]\displaystyle E[X] and Var(X)\displaystyle \mathrm{Var}(X).

For X ~ Uniform(2, 8): the mean is the midpoint (a+b)/2 = (2+8)/2 = 5. The variance is (b−a)²/12 = (8−2)²/12 = 36/12 = 3. So E[X] = 5 and Var(X) = 3.
