41Telescoping series sum

Find the sum ∑n=1∞1n(n+1)\displaystyle \sum_{n=1}^{\infty} \frac{1}{n(n + 1)}.

Split 1/(n(n+1)) into 1/n − 1/(n+1), so the series telescopes: almost every term cancels its neighbor. The partial sum is 1 − 1/(N+1), which approaches 1 as N→∞. So the sum is 1.
