1Determinant of a 2×22\times 2 matrix

Find det⁡A\displaystyle \det A for A=[2113]\displaystyle A = \begin{bmatrix}2 & 1\\1 & 3\end{bmatrix}.

For a 2×2 matrix the determinant is (top-left × bottom-right) − (top-right × bottom-left). Here that's 2×3 − 1×1 = 6 − 1 = 5, so det A = 5.
