13Inverse of a 2×22\times 2 matrix

Find the inverse of A=[2153]\displaystyle A = \begin{bmatrix}2 & 1\\5 & 3\end{bmatrix}.

For A = [[2,1],[5,3]], the determinant is (2)(3)−(1)(5) = 1. Swap the diagonal, negate the off-diagonal entries, then divide by the determinant: A⁻¹ = [[3,−1],[−5,2]]. Checking A·A⁻¹ gives the identity matrix.
