3Determinant, upper triangular

Find det⁡A\displaystyle \det A for the upper triangular matrix A=[271035004]\displaystyle A = \begin{bmatrix}2 & 7 & 1\\0 & 3 & 5\\0 & 0 & 4\end{bmatrix}.

For a triangular matrix, zeros below the diagonal make every other term in cofactor expansion vanish, so det A is just the product of the diagonal entries: 2·3·4 = 24. Checked by cofactor expansion along column 1: 2(3·4−5·0) = 24.
