40Scaling a box's volume
Each dimension of a rectangular box is doubled. The new box has a volume of 320 cubic inches. What was the volume of the original box, in cubic inches?
The original volume was 40 cubic inches. Doubling every dimension multiplies volume by 2³ = 8, so 8V = 320 gives V = 40. Check: 8 × 40 = 320.
