40Standard error of the mean

A population has mean 50 and standard deviation 10. Find the standard error of the mean of a sample of 100.

The standard error measures how much sample means wobble: SE = σ/√n = 10/√100 = 10/10 = 1. Check: 1² × 100 = 100 = 10², matching σ².
