26Rank-nullity theorem

A linear map T ⁣:R5→R3\displaystyle T\colon \mathbb{R}^5 \to \mathbb{R}^3 has rank 3\displaystyle 3. What is the dimension of its kernel?

By rank-nullity, the domain's dimension splits into rank plus kernel dimension: 5 = rank + dim(ker T). With rank 3, dim(ker T) = 5 − 3 = 2. Check: 3 + 2 = 5.
