18Inconsistent linear system

Solve the system {x+2y=32x+4y=7\displaystyle \begin{cases}x + 2y = 3\\2x + 4y = 7\end{cases}

Doubling the first equation gives 2x+4y=6, but the second says 2x+4y=7 — the same left side can't equal two different numbers. Subtracting gives 0=1, a contradiction, so the system has no solution: the lines are parallel (both slope −1/2) with different intercepts.
